Cedarbrae, Calgary is a mature residential neighborhood located in the southwest quadrant of the city. Cedarbrae’s a popular place to live because of its affordable real estate and the opportunities for both indoor and outdoor recreation that it offers. The lands that make up present-day Cedarbrae were annexed by the City of Calgary in 1956, but the neighborhood wasn’t established till 1973. Cedarbrae is bounded by Southland Drive to the north, 24th Street to the east, Anderson Road to the south, and the Tsuu T’ina First Nation reserve to the west.


Cedarbrae, Calgary is mostly comprised of single family homes and townhouses; condos make up about 10% of the residences in the community. Homes in Cedarbrae are in the low-to-mid price range. The majority of people who live in Cedarbrae are homeowners.

Recreational Opportunities

There are plentiful recreational opportunities in Cedarbrae, Calgary because of its proximity to Fish Creek Park and South Glenmore Park. Fish Creek Park is one of the largest urban parks in North America. It features several pedestrian and bicycle trails that connect to the city’s pathway system and is home to an array of wildlife, including owls, coyotes, deer, and beavers. South Glenmore Park features playgrounds, tennis courts, hiking and biking trails, and a cross-country skiing area. The Glenmore Sailing Club is also just a short drive to the north of Cedarbrae. For indoor recreation, visitors can go to the Southland Leisure Centre, which features a gymnastics room, ice skating rink, kinder room, rock climbing wall, and more.

At the heart of Cedarbrae lies the Cedarbrae Community Centre, which is home to skating rinks, playing fields, and baseball diamonds. The Cedarbrae Community Association is a thriving, active group that hosts numerous activities and classes, including Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, yoga, a mom and tots group, and jelly bean dances. Cedarbrae is also well known for its sports programs, which include soccer and football. Events that the Cedarbrae Community Association regularly organizes include the Stampede Hoedown in July, the New Year’s Eve Wingding, and a craft fair in November.

Cedarbrae, Calgary is popular with families because of its affordable housing, abundance of recreational opportunities, and central location. There are several public, private, and separate schools in the area, as well, so it’s a convenient area for school children. Cedarbrae also has a relatively low crime rate, so you can rest assured that the community is a safe and secure place for your family to live.
