Coach Hill, Calgary is a southwest community that’s comprised of a rich mix of condominiums, townhomes, single family homes, and detached homes
that were developed in the late 1970s. The neighborhood got its name from the stage coaches that used to travel along the route on their way to Banff.
Located atop a hill that was formerly known as Broadcast Hill, Coach Hill offers easy access to the downtown area via the Bow Trail corridor. The neighborhood has a population of approximately 3,300 people. The majority of Coach Hill’s residents are homeowners; renters only comprise around 15.7% of the community.
Location
Coach Hill, Calgary is located in the Westhills area. Because of Coach Hill’s elevated location, the homes there boast excellent views of both the city and the mountains. It’s a mature neighborhood that boasts plenty of parks, an active community centre, tree-lined streets, and quick access to the Rockies.
The community is bounded by Sarcee Trail to the east, Bow Trail to the south, 69th Street to the west, and Old Banff Coach Road to the north. Coach Hill is conveniently located near local shopping plazas, including the Westhills Shopping Area, which is home to theatres, restaurants, outlet stores, Staples, and more. The west leg of the LRT is currently under construction, and its terminal will be located close to Coach Hill.
Parks and Recreation
Coach Hill, Calgary has a community centre that’s located along Old Banff Coach Road. The community centre is surrounded by green space and recreational facilities, such as a playground, baseball diamond, outdoor rink, and soccer pitches. Programs that the community centre offers include yoga, line dancing, Celtic dancing, a mom and tots group, and Tae Kwon Do. The gardens and green spaces in the community are maintained by local Girl Guides, who also aid in community clean ups. Coach Hill shares sports programs with the neighboring communities of Strathcona and Christie. Sports programs offered by these communities include basketball, baseball, softball, hockey, and lacrosse.
Coach Hill is served by the Coach Hill-Patterson Heights Community Association, which organizes several special events each year, such as the Stampede Breakfast. The Westside Recreation Centre, which is also near Coach Hill, features pools, sports arenas, fitness facilities, and more.
