Dalhousie, Calgary is an active, family-friendly community that was annexed in 1961 and developed in 1967. This mature neighborhood was
named after General George Ramsay, 9th Earl of Dalhousie, who was the Governor General of British North America from 1820 to 1828.
Located south of Nose Hill Park in the northwest quadrant of Calgary, Dalhousie is home to just over 9,000 residents. Approximately 75% of the
homes in Dalhousie are single family homes or townhomes, and over 70% of the community consists of homeowners. Dalhousie is a charming
neighborhood with many parks and playgrounds and plenty of large trees.
Dalhousie, Calgary is bordered by John Laurie Boulevard in the north, Crowchild Trail in the south, Shaganappi Trail in the east, and Sarcee Trail
in the west. Dalhousie is a convenient neighborhood for students because the University of Calgary, SAIT, and ACAD are nearby. Dalhousie is
served by the Dalhousie LRT station, so residents can use public transport to get around with ease. Dalhousie’s also well connected to the city’s
major roadways, making for easy commutes.
Dalhousie, Calgary is located near regional shopping centres, including the Crowfoot Centre, which features numerous shops, restaurants,
recreational facilities, and entertainment venues. The city’s pathway system connects Dalhousie to Nose Hill Park, one of the largest municipal
parks in North America. Nose Hill Park, which features native grasslands and archaeological sites, offers a relaxing escape from the hustle and
bustle of the city.
Dalhousie has an active community centre that offers a diversity of programs to suit family members of all ages and interests. The community
centre features a playschool, kindergarten, Kindermusik program, and playgroup cooperative for younger children. Programs for older children at
the community centre include Girl Guides, Boy Scouts, soccer, kung fu, volleyball, Kumon, and more. Adults can enjoy programs like yoga,
keyboarding, folk art, and parenting courses.
In addition to ongoing classes and programs, Dalhousie’s community centre organizes several special events each year, including a Stampede
breakfast, Winterfest Celebration, Lobsterfest, and much more. Other popular events held by Dalhousie’s community centre include craft fairs,
art sales, and used toy and clothes sales. There is literally something for everyone in the Dalhousie community!
Because of its active community centre and myriad recreational opportunities, Dalhousie is a popular neighborhood for families. Additionally,
Dalhousie is home to several public and separate schools, including Dalhousie Elementary, H.D. Cartwright Junior High, St. Dominic Elementary,
and West Dalhousie Elementary.
