Deer Run, Calgary is a popular neighborhood for outdoor enthusiasts because it is surrounded by nature. Fish Creek Provincial Park borders this scenic, peaceful community in the west, south, and east, and thereís a large municipal park within the neighborhood itself.

Annexed in 1961 and established in 1978, Deer Run, Calgary is located in the southeast quadrant of the city. This community of nearly 6,000 residents is located on the bend of the Bow River. It is adjacent to the community of Deer Ridge, but the two neighborhoods are intersected by 146th Avenue, which connects the areaís streets with Bow Bottom Trail. Deerfoot Trail, which is accessible via Bow Bottom Trail, provides quick access to the downtown area and other parts of the city.

Real Estate

Real estate in Deer Run, Calgary is highly affordable. Many of the homes in the neighborhood sell in the low-mid price range. Deer Run is primarily comprised of single family homes. Less than 7% of the buildings are apartments, condominiums, or townhouses.


In the northwest corner of Deer Run, Calgary, youíll find the Deer Valley Shopping Centre, a popular neighborhood mall that offers a variety of shops and services. The community is served by Deer Run Elementary, and there are designated out-of-district junior high and high schools in neighboring communities.

Parks and Recreation

Deer Run is home to a large, active community centre that features multiple meeting rooms, a gym, a preschool, a commercial kitchen, offices, storage, and a racquetball court. The gym has a treadmill, bike, weights, stair climber, and other equipment. Programs offered by the community centre include yoga, karate, soccer, Girl Guides, Boy Scouts, and more. Deer Run also has a hockey rink, pleasure rink, baseball diamonds, and soccer fields. To put it simply, family members of all ages can find ways to stay busy and entertain themselves while living in Deer Run, Calgary.

Other recreational areas that are easily accessible in Deer Run include Fish Creek Provincial Park and Sikome Lake. Sikome Lake is a man-made lake where you can go swimming in the summertime. Fish Creek Provincial Park, which is Canadaís largest urban park, features trails, camping facilities, and a variety of wildlife. The park also boasts an extensive pathway system that connects to Deer Run and other parts of the city.

Deer Runís community association is highly active. In addition to organizing a variety of activities for residents and hosting pubs and casinos, the association holds a variety of annual events, including a Stampede Breakfast and Christmas Crafts Fair. Other programs that Deer Runís community association organizes include a Blockwatch and a Membership Advantage program, which offers discounts at local businesses with the purchase of a community membership.
