Elbow Park, Calgary is one of the oldest and wealthiest communities in the city. In fact, the community is known for being home to Calgary’s “old money.” This prestigious neighborhood was annexed by the city in 1907 and developed after 1910. Many of the area’s original homes still stand and although they’ve been renovated over the years, they continue to maintain their distinctive character. The historic neighborhood of Elbow Park is located just three kilometers away from the city centre, so its residents have quick access to a variety of restaurants and shopping and entertainment venues.


Elbow Park, Calgary is located on the east side of the Elbow River. The neighborhood’s beautiful homes boast spacious lots that are located along the banks of the river. Elbow Park is close to the city’s core yet boasts serene surroundings, so it’s popular with those who want to live close to the action without sacrificing a tranquil community atmosphere. In just 10 minutes, residents can escape to the downtown area and enjoy its abundant amenities.

Real Estate

Elbow Park is an exclusive community that’s popular with Calgary’s well-heeled. It features quaint, winding streets lined with trees and early-20th century estate homes. The neighborhood is home to approximately 3,500 residents. Most of the buildings in the area are single family detached homes, and only 4% of them are occupied by renters. Homes in Elbow Park, Calgary range in price from the high six figures to more than $10 million. There are nearly 1,200 homes in the neighborhood.

Parks and Recreation

Elbow Park, Calgary is home to several parks, tennis courts, and recreational venues. The pathways along the Elbow River are accessible from several spots in the neighborhood. The private Glencoe Club and public Talisman Centre, both of which offer myriad recreational opportunities, are also near Elbow Park. Recreational areas close to Elbow Park include River Park, Stanley Park, and the Lindsay Park Sports Centre. Additionally, there are public outdoor pools in Stanley Park and South Calgary.

The Elbow Park Community Centre features basketball courts, tennis courts, two hockey rinks, a playground, a baseball diamond, and a pleasure skating rink. Activities organized by Elbow Park’s community association include skating, art, soccer, yoga, and hockey. Annual events held in the community include the Movie in the Park night, which is a fundraising event.


Nearby 4th Street is home to several restaurants and bars. In fact, the area is called Calgary’s Restaurant Row. 17th Avenue, which features trendy shops, restaurants, and cafes, is also close by. Elbow Park is served by Elbow Park Elementary and William Reid Bilingual Elementary.
