Glengarry, Calgary, which is also known as Killarney-Glengarry, is a residential neighborhood located in the southwest quadrant of the city. The area’s
first subdivision plan was registered in 1906, but the land wasn’t annexed by the city till 1910. Glengarry has a rich history, as it is one of Calgary’s
oldest neighborhoods. The community has a population of around 6,400.
Glengarry, Calgary is bounded by 17th Avenue SW to the north, 37th Street SW to the west, Richmond Road SW to the south, and 25A Street SW to the
east. Because of Glengarry’s proximity to major transportation routes, it is a convenient place to live. It is only a short drive away from the downtown
area. Furthermore, the LRT system is being extended in the south, which will make public transport more accessible to residents of Glengarry.
Glengarry, Calgary is one of Calgary’s oldest subdivisions, so it boasts an interesting mix of homes. In the early 1900s, storey clapboard housing was
predominant in the neighborhood. After World War II, hundreds of one storey bungalows were constructed in the area.
Since 2002, older structures have been replaced with low and medium-infill housing on 25-foot lots. Around 41.4% of the buildings in Glengarry are
condominiums or apartments, and around 44.1% of the housing in the neighborhood is occupied by renters. There are approximately 1,800 single
family homes in Glengarry with prices starting at $400,000. Prices for condos start at $200,000.
Glengarry, Calgary has an abundance of parks and open spaces that provide residents with an array of recreational opportunities. There’s one golf
course on the north edge of the community and one golf course on the south edge. Glengarry is also home to mountain bike trails and a toboggan hill.
In addition, there’s an indoor pool on 29th Street at 17th Avenue and another indoor pool at Optimist Park on Sarcee Trail. At the northwest end of the
community is Edworthy Park, where Glengarry residents can access the Bow River recreational pathways. The neighborhood is served by Holy Name
Elementary School and Killarney Elementary School. The main campus of Mount Royal College is located immediately to the south of Glengarry.
The closest movie theatre to Glengarry, Calgary is the multiplex at Westhills. There has been plenty of commercial development within the community,
as well, especially along 17th Avenue SW. Popular shopping areas near Glengarry, Calgary include Westbrook Mall and the Westhills Town Centre.
