A fairly new community that was established in 1981, Hawkwood is located in the northwest quadrant of the city. The neighborhood is bounded by Country Hills Boulevard to the north, Sarcee Trail to the east, John Laurie Boulevard to the south, and Nose Hill Drive to the west. Hawkwood, Calgary has a population of approximately 10,559 residents, who have an above average household income.

Hawkwood was named after John and Joseph Hawkwood, the area’s first landowners. The original settlers of the Hawkwood, Calgary area were Paleo- Indian bison hunters, who most likely chose the area because of its exposure to warm Chinook winds and its good winter grazing conditions.

Real Estate

Hawkwood, Calgary is a family-oriented community that is made up of mostly single family homes, but it also has some condominiums, townhomes, and apartments. The neighborhood has a home ownership rate of nearly 95%. Residents of Hawkwood can enjoy stunning views of the snow-capped Rockies and panoramic views of the city. Real estate prices in Hawkwood, Calgary range from the high 200s to the high 800s.


There are several quality schools located in Hawkwood, Calgary, including Hawkwood Elementary and St. Maria Goretti Elementary. Hawkwood residents can quickly access Calgary International Airport via Country Hills Boulevard and the Rockies via Stoney Trail. The area is also located near several commercial developments, such as the Crowfoot Centre, a shopping area that features a multi-screen movie theatre. The nearby Rock Mountains serve as Hawkwood’s beautiful backdrop and offer a variety of recreational opportunities.

Parks and Recreation

Hawkwood, Calgary has an abundance of parks and green space, including Nose Hill Park, one of the largest urban parks in North America. There is also a new YMCA located to the west of Hawkwood. In addition, the community is connected to the city’s pathway system.

The Hawkwood Community Association organizes a variety of recreational programs for residents, including soccer, baseball, badminton, Girl Guides, and Boy Scouts. A Stampede breakfast is among the many special events the association puts on each year. Hawkwood is also home to western Canada’s first free community wireless internet service.

At the time of writing, there is no community centre in Hawkwood, Calgary, but there are plans to build one. The Hawkwood Community Association plans to construct a community centre with a skating rink, a skate park, tennis courts, basketball hoops, a meeting area, and more.
