Marlborough, Calgary is a residential neighborhood located in the northeast quadrant of the city. Annexed in 1961 and established in 1967, the community of Marlborough was named after Marlborough, England and has a population of 8,529. It is predominantly a low-density residential area with many apartments and townhouse condos.


When Marlborough was first established, the northwest corner of the community was largely undeveloped and there was a small motel in the southeast corner of the community. The motel was demolished in the early 1970s when a cloverleaf interchange was developed in the area. Marlborough was also home to a large open field that was used for industrial/oilfield storage into the 1970s.


Marlborough, Calgary is bounded by the Trans-Canada Highway to the north, 52nd Street E to the east, Memorial Drive to the south, and 36th Street E to the west. Residents of Marlborough are served by the C-Train LRT systemís Marlborough station.

Memorial Drive offers easy access to the downtown area, which is located just six kilometers west of the community. Barlow Trail and 52nd Street connect Marlborough to industrial areas located south of the community. 16th Avenue W connects to Banff, while 16th Avenue E connects to Chestermere.

Real Estate

Marlborough, Calgary has a home ownership rate of over 72%. The neighborhood consists mostly of townhouse condos and apartments. The last major residential development in Marlborough occurred in the 1990s, when houses were added to the western portion of Marlyn Way. Condominiums in Marlborough sell for an average of $197, 967, while single family homes in the community sell for an average of $300,556.

Parks and Recreation

Marlborough, Calgary is located near several large parks. Recreational facilities that Marlborough residents have access to include the Village Square Leisure Centre, which is best known for its wave pool and water slides, and the indoor pool and ice arena located in Forest Lawn. Lake Chestermere, which is just 15 minutes away from Marlborough via the Trans-Canada Highway, features a golf course, a summertime waterslide park, and water activities.

For shopping, Marlborough residents can go to Marlborough Mall, which is located in the southwest corner of the neighborhood. Marlborough Mall features approximately 100 stores and services, as well as a movie theatre. At the time of writing, the anchor stores at Marlborough Mall are Sears and Wal-Mart. To catch a film, Marlborough residents can go to the cinema in London Towne Square.


There are both public and separate schools in the Marlborough, Calgary area. Schools that serve the community include Bob Edwards Junior High, Chris Akkerman Elementary, Marlborough Elementary, and St. Mark Elementary.
