Martindale, Calgary is a community located in the northeast sector of the city. Annexed in 1961 and developed in 1983, Martindale is an affordable,
family-oriented neighborhood that features ample green space. The community offers quick access to major transportation routes, allowing residents to
get to the downtown area and other parts of the city with ease.
Martindale, Calgary is bounded by 80th Avenue N to the north, Falconridge Boulevard to the east, 64th Avenue N to the south, and 44th Street E to the
west. Martindale has a population of around 8,513 and is located just east of the Calgary International Airport. It neighbors the communities of
Falconridge and Castleridge. At the time of writing, there are plans to construct an LRT station in the area, which will make public transportation more
accessible to Martindale residents.
Housing in Martindale, Calgary consists mostly of single family starter homes and move-up homes that were developed in the 1980s. Condominiums
and apartments make up less than 1% of the community’s housing. Martindale has a home ownership rate of over 93%.
There are several schools within easy reach of Martindale. Furthermore, the community recently acquired a new public school known as Crossing Park
Parks and Recreation
Martindale, Calgary boasts ample green space and a community skating rink that is used for ice skating in the winter and as a skate park in the
summer. Local teen entrepreneurs run a snack shop near the rink. Martindale is also home to a toboggan hill and a number of parks. Just a kilometer
away is the 40-acre Prairie Winds Park, which is located in the neighboring community of Castleridge. At the time of writing, there is a 17-acre joint-use
park being built east of Martindale Boulevard on Martin Crossing Park that will include basketball courts, an outdoor hockey rink, soccer fields, a
community centre, and baseball diamonds.
Martindale currently does not have its own community centre, but its community association is very active. Special events that the Martindale Community
Association hosts each year include a silent auction and dance, kids’ movie nights, skate parties, and a Stampede Breakfast. Fundraising casinos are
held every 18 months in order to raise money for these events and other community programs. Martindale enjoys great relationships with the
neighboring communities of Falconridge and Castleridge, so Martindale residents often participate in their programs, as well.
