Mission, Calgary is an inner-city neighborhood located in the southwest sector of the city, near the downtown area. It has a population of around 4,433
people. Mission is famous for hosting the St. Lilac Festival each May, as well as being home to bustling 4th Street, which features several trendy shops
and restaurants.
The Mission district has a rich history. The neighborhood was founded in 1975 by French-Canadian priests and originated as Notre Dame de la Paix, a Catholic Mission. The area was also incorporated as the Village of Rouleauville for some time. Although the founders of the community tried to preserve the neighborhood’s French character, it became overwhelmingly English over time.
Location
The historic neighborhood of Mission, Calgary is bordered by Elbow River to the south and is located east of 4th Street. The Mission has a large population of younger residents. It is a popular place for young professionals to live because of its proximity to the downtown area. Many people who work downtown and live in the Mission walk to work.

Mission, Calgary is mostly comprised of condominiums and townhomes. In fact, there are 1,650 condo units in the Mission. Some older, single family homes remain in the Mission, but there are only 76 of them. Mission, Calgary is a great place to live because of its proximity to a variety of shops, bars, and restaurants. 4th Street, aka Calgary’s Restaurant Row, is a popular hangout because it is home to many trendy restaurants and cafés.
