Parkdale, Calgary is a residential neighborhood in the northwest sector of the city. Parkdale is conveniently situated near the city’s downtown core. The
community was constructed after WWII and was once a suburb, but it is now an inner-city neighborhood.
Parkdale is home to around 2,130 people. The area was annexed by the city in 1910, but it wasn’t developed until 1948. Parkdale is particularly popular
with young families and professionals because of its proximity to the downtown area. Property investors also have a growing interest in the Parkdale
area because it is located near several major employers.
Parkdale is a somewhat small neighborhood, but it continues to expand. Despite its growth and the fact that new developments continue to pop up in
the area, Parkdale continues to maintain a friendly atmosphere.
Parkdale, Calgary is located along the north bank of the Bow River, between the communities of West Hillhurst and Point McKay. It is bounded by Bow
River to the south, Crowchild Trail to the east, 16th Avenue to the north, and Shaganappi Trail to the west. Residents of Parkdale can access the
downtown area with ease via Memorial Drive. The neighborhood is also located in close proximity to Foothills Hospital, Market Mall, the new Children’s
Hospital, and the University of Calgary.
Parkdale, Calgary primarily features low-density residential dwellings. Single family detached homes in Parkdale have prices ranging from just under
$500,000 to over $2,000,000. There are also condominiums in the neighborhood, with prices starting at around $225,000, as well as townhomes, with
prices starting at around $370,000. Parkdale has a home ownership rate of over 60%.
At the heart of the Parkdale, Calgary community is Parkdale Crescent, which features locally-owned shops and eateries. Parkdale also has many walking
paths and is located near the Bow River and Foothills Athletic Park, which features fitness facilities, swimming pools, and a skating rink. The community
is served by the Foothills Academy, as well as schools located in neighboring communities.
Parks and Recreation
Parkdale, Calgary is served by the Parkdale Community Association. Community facilities that are maintained by the association include a main hall with
a kitchen, sound system, and outdoor BBQ area. Recreational amenities available to Parkdale residents include an outdoor skating rink and sports
fields. There are also many programs offered in the community, such as sports, a seniors’ program, Scouts and Guides, and a Block Watch program.
