Ramsay, Calgary was developed in the 1880s, but it wasn’t established as a neighborhood until 1914. The neighborhood formed when residents of
Grandview, Mills Estate, Brewery Flats, and Burnsland consolidated as a new community. The neighborhood was named Ramsay in 1956. A large portion
of Ramsay is situated along Scotsman’s Hill, which is a slope where many people hang out during Stampede events to watch the happenings without
paying admission fees.
Ramsay has an eclectic, funky feel and many of the houses in the area are 100-year-old heritage homes. The neighborhood’s also known for its
friendly, small-town feel. Kids walking to and from school are a common sight on the neighborhood’s streets, and there are lots of friendly people in the
Ramsay, Calgary is located in the southeast quadrant of the city. The community is located east of the Elbow River, Macleod Trail, Stampede Grounds,
and Pengrowth Saddledome Arena. To the southeast, Ramsay borders Alyth-Bonny Brook industrial area, and to the north, it borders the neighborhood

homes, and there’s an industrial area located in the easternmost corner of the community. There has been a great deal of infill development in

Ramsay is quiet and affordable. Many homes in the neighborhood sell for $100,000 below Calgary’s median price. Although Ramsay used to have the
reputation of being a rough neighborhood, that is no longer the case. Many young families and singles have moved to the area in recent years because
of its affordable real estate, central location, and proximity to the Elbow River.
Ramsay, Calgary is located within minutes of the downtown core, so there’s no shortage of convenient amenities accessible to residents in the area.
Schools that serve the residents of Ramsay include Ecole Ste. Anne Elementary, Junior High, & Senior High, which is a separate school, and Ramsay
Elementary, which is a public school.
Parks and Recreation
The Ramsay Community Association holds a number of special events for residents, including an edible flower festival, a high tea, arts and crafts sales,
and garage sales. Activities in which community members may participate include a seniors’ program and sports. Ramsay also has its own outdoor
skating rink and community hall, which features a stage, kitchens, upper and lower hall, and games room.
