Ranchlands, Calgary is a residential neighborhood located in the northwest quadrant of the city. The neighborhood’s name derives from its ranching heritage. It has a population of around 7,700 residents. Ranchlands, Calgary is a popular neighborhood because it offers plenty of recreational opportunities and is just minutes away from schools, LRT access, and shopping.

Ranchlands was annexed in 1961 but wasn’t established as a neighborhood until 1977. Most of the homes in the area were developed in the 1980s, with the oldest homes located in the southern part of the neighborhood. The subdivision, Ranchlands Estates, is located in the northeastern sector of Ranchlands.


Ranchlands, Calgary is bounded by John Laurie Boulevard to the north, Nose Hill Drive NW to the west, Crowchild Trail to the south, and Sarcee Trail to the east. Nearby Stoney Trail offers easy access to the mountains, while Country Hills Boulevard offers quick access to the city’s airport.

Ranchlands, Calgary consists of mostly single family dwellings. Only 9% of the buildings in the neighborhood are condominiums or apartments, but that figure continues to grow. Ranchlands, Calgary is served by Ranchlands Community School, a public school, and St. Rita Elementary School, a separate school. The new Crowfoot CTrain Station is near Ranchlands, so getting around the city is easy. Ranchlands is a great neighborhood for students since SAIT, the University of Calgary, and ACAD are close by. Residents of Ranchlands are also within easy reach of the Crowfoot Crossing Shopping Centre, which has over 200 shops, a movie theatre, restaurants, supermarkets, and more. Crowfoot Crossing is one of the largest outdoor malls in Calgary.

Ranchlands, Calgary boasts a variety of recreational opportunities. There are tennis courts, playgrounds, dog-friendly parks, and athletic fields located within the neighborhood. In addition, Ranchlands has its own outdoor skating rink called the Ranchlands Community Association Rink. The Crowfoot YMCA and the Crowfoot Arena are also just a stone’s throw away.
