Richmond, Calgary, which also includes the community of Knob Hill, is a residential neighborhood in the southwest quadrant of the city. Richmond is also
referred to as Richmond Park. The neighborhood has a population of nearly 4,000 and is one of Calgary’s oldest communities.
Richmond was annexed in two phases: first in 1907 and then in 1910. Richmond was established as a neighborhood in 1950 and developed throughout
the 1950s. There is currently a redevelopment plan in place for the area.
Richmond, Calgary is located on both sides of Crowchild Trail, north of 17th Avenue SW. Richmond occupies approximately three blocks on each side of
Crowchild Trail. Richmond was the location of Alberta Children’s Hospital until 2007. It overlaps with the community of Killarney, which is located west of
Crowchild, and the community of Bankview, which is close to the old children’s hospital.
Richmond, Calgary is made up of mostly single family detached homes. Prices for homes in Richmond range from $450,000 to $1,800,000. Some of the
homes in Richmond date back to the 1950’s, but most of the neighborhood’s older homes are being torn down and replaced with modern infills.
Richmond, Calgary is located north of Marda Loop, a trendy area that features an array of shops and restaurants. Richmond is also just minutes away
from the downtown area and 17th Avenue. Additionally, Richmond residents have easy access to Calgary’s recreational pathway system, which runs
north-south through the community. Richmond is served by Richmond Elementary and the Chinook College for Continuing Education, both of which are
Parks and Recreation
Richmond, Calgary features a new community centre where residents can enjoy a variety of activities and programs, like a playgroup and dog training
group. The community is also home to hockey and skating rinks.
Richmond is served by the Richmond-Knob Hill Community Association, which has an active presence in the community. Special events that the
Richmond-Knob Hill Community Association puts together on a regular basis include chili cookout celebrations and community garage sales.
The Naval Museum of Alberta, which is part of the Military Museums, is in Richmond. Located off of Sierra Morena Boulevard, the community’s main park
features basketball courts, volleyball courts, and other recreational amenities. Allreds Outdoor Driving Range is right behind the park. Southwest
Regional Park and Richmond Green Golf Course are also nearby.
