Looking for an affordable neighborhood with a vibrant sense of community? If so, check out Riverbend, Calgary. Riverbend is a neighborhood in the southeast sector of the city. It is a scenic community that offers excellent views of the Rocky Mountains and the wooded flood plains. Riverbend is located near a bend of the Bow River, so thatís how it got its name. It is a relatively new neighborhood where development began in 1982. Today, around 10,319 people call Riverbend home.


Riverbend, Calgary is bounded by Glenmore Trail to the north, 24th Street E to the east, and Deerfoot Trail to the west. The Riverbend area boasts three different kinds of landscape: escarpment, upland plain, and floodplain. Riverbend is located near several of the cityís major roadways, including Barlow Trail, Glenmore Trail, and Deerfoot Trail.

Real Estate

Riverbend, Calgary offers a wide selection of affordable homes. The neighborhood consists primarily of newer single family homes that date back to the early 1980s. There are also two mobile home parks on the eastern edge of the community. Homes in Riverbend that surround the river boast wonderful views of the Rockies and the regionís wildlife areas.


The schools that serve Riverbend, Calgary are Holy Angels Elementary and Riverbend Elementary. Riverbend is located just off Glenmore Trail and is 12 kilometres south of the downtown area, so it also offers convenient access to the cityís best shopping and recreational venues. In addition, thereís a shopping centre located right in the area.

Parks and Recreation

Riverbend, Calgary boasts several municipal parks and green spaces, so itís an ideal neighborhood for those who like to live in proximity to nature. Riverbend is also well-connected to the cityís pathway system. In addition, the neighborhood boasts an active community centre that offers a vast range of programs for residents of all ages. Thereís a Jazzer Tots program for young children; dance, martial arts, and junior Jazzercise for older children and teens; and group fitness, strength training, Tae Bo, and yoga for adults.

Activities and groups that meet at Riverbendís community centre include Toastmasters, Girl Guides, Boy Scouts, Parents and Tots, and the TOPS (Take off Pounds Sensibly) group. Thereís also a skateboard park in the community thatís a popular hangout spot for adolescents. Special events held in the neighborhood on a regular basis include Jellybean Dances, community cleanup days, and fence painting contests.
