Roxboro, Calgary is a beautiful inner-city neighborhood located in the southwest quadrant of the city. Roxboro was established in 1923 but wasn’t
designated as a community until 1967, when it was incorporated into the same community as Rideau Park. One of the wealthiest neighborhoods in the
city, Roxboro has a median household income of $153,667. No low-income residents live in Roxboro, which has a total population of around 413.
Roxboro, Calgary is bounded by Elbow River to the north and west, 33rd Avenue S to the south, and the community of Rideau Park to the east.
Downtown Calgary, which is located 2.5 kilometres away from Roxboro, is within easy walking distance and can be reached via 4th Street SW. Roxboro
also offers easy access to some of the city’s major roadways, including Macleod Trail, Elbow Drive, and 17th Avenue. Not only is Roxboro centrally-
located, it is also surrounded by natural beauty, thanks to its ample green space and proximity to the Elbow River.
Roxboro, Calgary consists of only single family homes and none of the housing is used for renting. The homes in Roxboro are located on tree-lined
streets. Although development in the subdivision started in 1912, the neighborhood wasn’t built out until the 1920s because of a real estate bust. There
are a total of 159 homes in Roxboro, and they range in price from just under $1 million to just under $4 million.
Roxboro, Calgary is served by Rideau Park Elementary & Junior High. Not only is downtown Calgary close by, there are also many shops, restaurants,
and cafes located along nearby 4th Street, which is also known as Calgary’s Restaurant Row. 17th Avenue also features many shops and restaurants.
Parks and Recreation
Roxboro, Calgary offers convenient access to the Elbow River pathway system. The Elbow River itself also provides a wide range of recreational
opportunities. Popular activities on the Elbow River include canoeing and rafting. Recreational facilities available in Roxboro include tennis courts, Stanley
Park, an outdoor skating rink, and green space bordering the Elbow River.
Roxboro, Calgary is served by the Rideau-Roxboro Community Association. Although Roxboro does not have its own community centre, the community
association does organize a variety of activities, such as summer camps, Block Watch, and Scouts and Guides. Special events held in the community on
a regular basis include garage sales, Stampede lotteries, festivals, and craft markets.
