Scarboro, Calgary is an inner-city, residential neighborhood located in the southwest quadrant of the city, on Scarboro Hill. It is an established, upscale
neighborhood with homes situated on large lots and surrounded by plenty of green space. The land where Scarboro is situated used to belong to the
Canadian Pacific Railway, but it was annexed to the city in 1907. Plans to build subdivisions in the area were approved in 1910 and 1911. Scarboro
consists of Scarboro and Upper Scarboro and is bisected by the Crowchild Trail freeway. The community has a population of around 940.
Scarboro, Calgary is a picturesque neighborhood that is bounded by Bow Trail and 12th Avenue to the north; 17th Street, 14th Avenue, and 16th Street
to the east; 17th Avenue to the south; and Crowchild to the west. As in the community of Mount Royal, street names are used instead of numbers in
Scarboro. The LRT system is being extended to the area, so Scarboro residents will soon have easy access to public transport.
Scarboro, Calgary is a relatively wealthy neighborhood that is made up of mostly single family detached homes. The neighborhood has a home
ownership rate of over 70%. Prices for homes in Scarboro range from $450,000 to just under $2,000,000. In order to preserve Scarboro as a residential
area, a restrictive covenant was placed on lots in the neighborhood in the early 1900s.
Scarboro, Calgary is located just minutes away from the downtown area’s convenient amenities. Furthermore, residents of Scarboro have easy access to
the trendy shops, restaurants, and cafes located on 17th Avenue. At nearby Pumphouse Theatre, which is situated along the Bow River, Scarboro
residents can enjoy live theatre. To watch movies, residents can head to one of several movie theatres located in the downtown area. Scarboro is also
home to great schools. The community is served by Sunalta Elementary and Sacred Heart Elementary.
Parks and Recreation
Scarboro, Calgary is located near the Bow River recreational pathway system, as well as the Calgary Tennis Club. The Richmond Green and Shaganappi
Golf Courses are also close by. Recreational facilities available to Scarboro residents include an outdoor skating rink and sports/playfields.
Scarboro is served by the Scarboro Community Association, which organizes a variety of activities and programs for residents, such as youth sports, a
preschool program, Block Watch, and Scouts & Guides. Events held in the community on a regular basis include garage sales, BBQs, and book clubs.
